Patriotism Isn’t Jewish

Patriotism, every red blooded American holds their country in a high place within their heart. But should a Jew do the same? Short answer: no Long answer: Every Jew outside of Israel is currently in captivity. A phrase many use to describe an animal in an unnatural habitat, also fitting for any Jew in a foreign country. We as Jews whether religious or not, come from one small place. Israel. We are indigenous to the area and we can all call it home. Many Jews call America their home in modern times; Is it right? My reason for saying a Jew shouldn’t be patriotic is not said as a general statement. My opinion is that Jews should not be patriotic to foreign nations. Of course we have an obligation to hold Israel in high esteem, but no other nation. Why should we care about the socio-political happenings of any nation other than Israel? For example: Many Jews have been fighting Americas legal “progress” such as abortion, firearms, etc. But why should we care about the dynamics of a country other than Israel? Why must we feel obligated to give allegiance of any kind to a gentile nation? Yes we should always fight for whats right, but we must fight for whats right for our own people. The gentiles are not of us, they are not a set apart people. How can we justify fighting for the rights of a people naturally opposed to us? The injustice that happens to them is of their own doings. Everyone reaps what they sow, especially gentiles far from HaShem. So in short, we as Jews should keep to ourselves and avoid the tempting debates that can ensue from dabbling in the affairs of a nation of captivity. “L’Shana Haba’ah B’Yerushalayim” -H
